15 Movies Coming Out This Year (And 15 Coming Out In 2019)

by Ben Browne – on Jul 06, 2018 in Lists

We're halfway through 2018 and we've already had some awesome movies. In case you've just crawled out from under a rock, here's a very brief rundown. Marvel continued their streak with Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War, which both made practically all the money at the box office.

Not only that, but we've had the long-awaited sequel to the Incredibles, a second slice of Deadpool and a return to Jurassic World.

Outside of the giant cash-gobbling blockbusters, we've also had some great original movies like Annihilation, A Quiet Place and Game Night to keep us entertained.

Aside from a few disappointments, this year has been a brilliant one for movies and it only looks set to continue as we hurtle towards the holiday season and the cinematic treats the forthcoming months will bring.

While the pessimistic way to look at the situation is to say that the year's half over, we prefer to take the glass half-full approach and state that we've still got a solid half year to go.

There are still plenty of movies to come, all with the potential to be something special.

With that in mind, we decided to cast our eyes to the future and pick out the films on the horizon that may turn out to be the big talking points of this year and beyond. In fact, there are so many of them, we decided to break them down into a handy list for your perusal. It's what we do around here.

Here are the 15 Movies Coming Out This Year (And 15 Coming Out In 2019).

30 Christopher Robin (2018)

It's a pretty safe bet that, at least in some form or another, Disney basically owns your childhood. They're very aware of it too, if Christopher Robin is anything to go by.

The live action/CGI movie stars Ewan McGregor as a grown-up Christopher Robin, who has moved past his childhood adventures in the Hundred Acre Wood with Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, Eeyore, Owl, Rabbit, Kanga and Roo.

Pooh and the gang must team up to help the boring adult Christopher Robin recapture his sense of fun and imagination.

We've only seen a few trailers, but Christopher Robin already looks like it's going to melt hearts. It hits theaters August 3rd.

29 It: Chapter Two (2019)

It proved to be one of the standout movies of last year, so there are plenty of people hyped for the sequel.

Chapter Two picks up 27 years after the original. The Losers' Club has grown up and disbanded, but fate brings them back to Maine where they must face the shape-shifting It once again and try to destroy Pennywise once and for all.

The 2017 movie ended up scaring a storm at the box office and Chapter Two is looking like it might be even bigger.

It: Chapter Two is out on September 6th, 2019.

28 BlacKkKlansman (2018)

Spike Lee and Jordan Peele have joined forces to bring us BlacKkKlansman.

John David Washington plays Ron Stallworth, an African-American police detective living in 1970s Colorado.

When a plot by the Ku Klux Klan is uncovered, Ron must enlist the help of Flip Zimmerman (Adam Driver) and the duo must work together to infiltrate the KKK and take it down from within.

This may seem like a wacky Hollywood plot, but it's based on a true story. There really is a Ron Stallworth and he genuinely went undercover into the KKK.

The movie already has some great buzz about it due to its Cannes premiere and will be out August 10th.

27 Wonder Woman 1984 (2019)

Undoubtedly the DCEU's biggest success story, Wonder Woman is getting another crack of the lasso in 2019.

The main creative team are returning, with Gal Gadot as Diana Prince and Patty Jenkins directing.

Most surprisingly of all is the fact that Chris Pine's Steve Trevor is apparently back.

Diana also has a new villain to tangle with in the form of Kristen Wiig's Cheetah.

Rumors are swirling about when we'll get our first look at the movie, but there are whispers that Gal Gadot will present the first footage at this year's San Diego Comic-Con.

Wonder Woman 1984 will open November 1st, 2019.

26 Crazy Rich Asians (2018)

Crazy Rich Asians is already a talking point for a number of reasons and the movie isn't even out yet.

Firstly, it's based on a popular book of the same name and secondly, it's being considered an important victory for representation, regarded as the first Western made movie with a predominantly Asian cast since 1993's The Joy Luck Club.

Constance Wu plays Rachel Chu, an economics professor who joins her boyfriend in attending his friend's wedding in Singapore.

However, what BF Nick hasn't told her is that he's from one of Singapore's wealthiest and most powerful families. This means that Rachel is unknowingly thrust into a world of money, decadence, and celebrity.

The movie opens August 15th.

25 Toy Story 4 (2019)

This year may have had an Incredibles sequel, but 2019 will see the return of the juggernaut that is Toy Story.

Making a new sequel to one of the most beloved trilogies ever is a tall order, but Pixar have proven themselves capable numerous times before, meaning that it's pretty safe to start getting excited for Toy Story 4.

Woody's love interest Bo Peep (voiced by Annie Potts) has gone missing and so Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz (Tim Allen,) and the rest of the toys must stage a mission to find her.

The movie will release on 21st June, 2019, nearly twenty years after the first film debuted.

24 The Nun (2018)

The Nun is the second spin-off series from the popular Conjuring movies.

The Nun will take us back to 1950s Romania and explore the macabre origins of The Conjuring 2's Demon Nun character. Not much else is known outside of basic plot details, but we do know that Taissa Farmiga, sister of series star Vera Farmiga, will be heading up the cast along with Demian Bichir.

If The Nun proves successful, it could be the start of its own series, following in Annabelle's creepy little footsteps.

The Nun will hopefully scare the bejeesus out of us when it stalks onto the big screen September 7th.

23 John Wick: Chapter 3 (2019)

Yeah, we're thinking he's back. Keanu Reeves returns as hitman John Wick in 2019.

The first two movies have featured stellar action and a great central performance from Keanu himself, so John Wick 3 can't come fast enough for our liking.

After the massive tease at the end of Chapter Two, John Wick 3 will see John even further on the fringes of society, with a hefty global contract on his life.

Many of the cast like Ian McShane, Laurence Fishburne, and Lance Reddick are locked in, with series newcomer Halle Berry looking to shake things up.

John Wick: Chapter 3 is released May 17th, 2019.

22 The Predator (2018)

The year 1987's Predator somehow managed to be great despite the plethora of problems it faced whilst being made. Lethal Weapon writer Shane Black was cast as Hawkins but also made several uncredited contributions to the ever-changing script.

This year, Shane Black returns to the Predator franchise, this time as both director and writer.

The Predator takes place between Predator 2 and Predators and concerns the Predators returning to Earth, this time augmented with genetic material from other lethal hunters.

With the fate of the world hanging in the balance, humanity must fight against their most dangerous threat yet.

The Predator decloaks September 14th.

21 Hellboy (2019)

Hellboy is getting a reboot next year with Stranger Things' David Harbour in the title role.

Harbour is joined by Milla Jovovich,  Ian McShane, and Daniel Dae Kim as they and director Neil Marshall attempt to make another Hellboy adventure at least on par with Guillermo Del Toro's two previous movies.

According to the frustratingly vague synopsis, Hellboy will face off against a megalomaniacal medieval sorceress, which sounds pretty Hellboyish to us.

Also, it has to be said that David Harbour looks the business as Big Red.

Hellboy is currently slated for a January 11th release.
