DC Confirms Harley Quinn & Poison Ivy Got Married

Warning: SPOILERS for Injustice 2 #70.

The latest issue of the Injustice 2 prequel comic confirms that Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy got married in the reality of the Injustice video games. Though the gal pals have been depicted as having been in a committed romantic relationship before, this marks the first time that the two anti-heroines have been shown to have tied the knot in any reality.

Dr. Pamela Isley and Dr. Harleen Quinzel have been partners in crime (and partners in love) since the first time they teamed up. The two were first paired together in the Batman: The Animated Series episode "Harley and Ivy." Though the censors at Fox Kids would never have allowed a lesbian relationship to be suggested between the two, it had always been the intention of writer Paul Dini and director Bruce Timm that Harley and Ivy should be more than friends.

Innuendos about their "special relationship" were slipped into the comics when Harley made her way into the mainstream DC continuity in 1999, and the two were finally allowed to have an open romance in 2015.

Previous issues of the Injustice: Gods Among Us prequel comic confirmed that Harley and Ivy's romance existed in this reality as well. The two were separated for most of the events of that comic, but the Harley Quinn focused mini-series Injustice: Ground Zero ended with Harley and Ivy going off to enjoy a much-deserved vacation together (after Harley helped save the world, and won the respect of Batman).

Yet nothing had suggested that the two were anything more than committed lovers. In Injustice 2 #70, that's all changed.

Injustice 2 #70 sees the marriage of a different pair of Suicide Squad members - Waylon "Killer Croc" Jones and Dr. Grace "Orca" Balin - come to fruition. The two had apparently shared a night of passion in an earlier issue, and the revelation that Orca is pregnant with his child spurred Croc to make an honest whale-woman of her. With Solovar, ruler of Gorilla City agreeing to conduct the ceremony, a wedding was quickly arranged, with Orca musing that getting married was never a priority, given her devotion to her career and transformation into a strange half-human hybrid.

Surprisingly, Poison Ivy sympathizes with Orca, confessing that she hadn't seen marriage as something she would experience in her life, either. She then makes mention of a trip to Las Vegas - the quickie wedding capital of the world - with Harley Quinn, and an encounter with an Elvis impersonator. Fans can only assume it occurred at the famous Graceland Wedding Chapel (and was Harley's idea).

Sadly, those who have played Injustice 2 know that Harley and Ivy's marriage didn't last, as the two found themselves on opposite sides of the conflict between Gorilla Grodd and Batman - and whatever love and friendship existed between them seemed dead. Still, it's heartening to know that, for a time at least, love did touch their lives.

Hopefully Croc and Orca's marriage will end far more happily.

Injustice 2 #70 is now available from DC Comics.
