Fahrenheit 11/9 Trailer: Michael Moore Takes on Donald Trump

Documentary filmmaker and provocateur Michael Moore returns and sets his sights on President Trump once again in the first trailer for his new film Fahrenheit 11/9. Today, it was revealed that the film would hold its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, which runs from September 9 through September 16. TIFF hasn't announced a specific premiere date at this time, but the film will debut in the TIFF Docs lineup.

This new film comes just under two years before his surprise film Michael Moore in Trumpland, a one-man stand-up comedy show that the director performed deep in Trump territory (Clinton County, OH), which was released just weeks before the 2016 Presidential election. Moore correctly predicted that Democratic stalwart states Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania would be won by Trump, despite Democrats winning those states for the past six Presidential elections. Now the filmmaker returns to take a deeper dive into how this all happened in Fahrenheit 11/9, which references both his 2004 documentary Fahrenheit 9/11 and the date 11/9, as in November 9, 2016, the day after the 2016 Presidential election.

The Fahrenheit 11/9 trailer debuted on Michael Moore's YouTube channel, which describes the film as a "provocative and comedic look at the times we live in." The film itself will explore what the director believes is the two most important questions of Trump's administration, "How the f**k did we get here, and how the f**k do we get out?" The trailer features footage from various events such as Trump rallies and white nationalist rallies, as well as Moore's interviews with Parkland school shooting survivor David Hogg and an unnamed Trump supporter who claims there will be a "spasm of violence" if anyone tries to impeach President Trump.

One of the hallmarks of Moore's films are his outrageous and very public stunts, along with his love and adoration for his hometown of Flint, MI. And he manages to kill two birds with one stone here. The trailer features a scene where Moore drives a truck labeled "Flint Water" up to the gated home of Michigan governor Rick Snyder. He proceeds to take out a fire hose and spray some of this "Flint Water" into his premises, stating, "I've got some Flint Water here for you." The city of Flint has been without clean drinking water for over four years now, and they aren't expected to until the year 2020, when the removal of all the lead pipes in the city will be completed.

Fahrenheit 11/9 will get a wide release in theaters, via BriarCliff, on September 21, putting it up against Universal's The House With a Clock In Its Walls and Amazon Studios' Life Itself. Moore has indicated in the past that this film will also target Roseanne Barr, although no reference was made to the disgraced comedienne in the trailer. While Moore's films aren't always box office hits, he still does hold the distinction of directing the highest-grossing documentary of all time, Fahrenheit 9/11, which is still the only documentary to have grossed over $100 million domestically ($119.1 million). Whether or not Moore can replicate that kind of success with Fahrenheit 11/9 remains to be seen, but even if it isn't a blockbuster, it may just be one of the most talked-about films of the year, on both sides of the political spectrum.
