Game of Thrones: 20 Things Only True Fans Know About Jon Snow And Daenerys' Relationship

For Game of Thrones fans, the romance between Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow has been a long time coming.

For a good six seasons, Daenerys has been roaming the exotic edges of Westeros, seemingly far away from the other houses backstabbing each other for the crown.

She did a lot in the first six seasons, from uniting the horse tribes of the Dothraki to freeing all the enslaved people in Slaver's Bay (Now called Dragon's Bay), assembling an army and an armada of sailing ships, and getting ready for a run at the throne.

Though word of what Daenerys was up to would reach King's Landing by raven thanks to spies, any effort to stop her was thwarted.

Jon Snow was busy building his own empire. Exiled on the frigid northern wall, he went beyond into the untamed North and discovered the unspeakable horrors of the White Walkers.

It was there that he recognized the true threat and united the North and the Wildlings in an alliance to stop the White Walkers. He perished after being betrayed by his own men, was magically resurrected, and won a triumphant assault against The House of Bolton to re-take Winterfell, re-establish House Stark, and become King of the North.

Jon knew he needed resources from Daenerys to take on the White Walkers and save Westeros - and fans knew that this smoldering couple would eventually meet.

However, not everyone knows the strange and occasionally sordid details of their relationship...

With that said, here are the 20 Things Only True Fans Know About Jon Snow And Daenerys' Relationship.

20 Daenerys Is Jon's Aunt

Yes, it's true, but they don't know they have any relation at all... yet.

Ned Stark lied and told Jon Snow that he was his illegitimate son. However, it turns out that he's not Ned Stark's son at all, but rather the progeny of Lyanna Stark, Ned's sister, and Rhaegar Targaryen, Daenerys' late brother.

So this complicated things.

Jon Snow's legitimacy as King of the North rests on being the male heir of Ned Stark. However, as part Targaryen, he might arguably have a claim to the "big" throne.

The fact that he just started a romantic relationship with his aunt is extremely disturbing.

Sure, they like each other now, but it won't be long before the dragon is out of the bag and they'll have a host of awkward feelings to deal with.

19 Jon Wouldn't "Bend The Knee" To Daenerys Until She Saved Him From The White Walkers

"Bending the knee" basically means pledging loyalty to someone as your rightful ruler. Jon Snow doesn't like bending the knee.

Jon fought hard to get any kind of legitimacy at all. He's put everything on the line to create alliances, as he tries to stop to the Walkers.

He's already lost his first love, Ygritte, and shortly after was assassinated by his own men. With magical help, he was resurrected, and since then, he desperately wants to unite all of the houses in Westeros to stop the Walkers.

Because of this, he decided to go on a dangerous mission with a handful of men to bring back a White Walker to prove they exist.

The mission went sideways, though, and Daenerys arrived with dragons blazing to save Jon and his men.

It was after this rescue that Jon realized she was worthy, and he bent the knee.

18 Jon Prefers An Alliance With Daenerys Rather Than With Cersei

Nobody trusts Cersei, especially not her own family.

Consumed with rage after her religious imprisonment, she routed out the extremists and her opposition in King's Landing by rounding them all up in the Sept where she supposedly would be put on trial.

Instead, she blew it to smithereens with wildfire, clearing the board for her to take over again. However, she lost her last remaining child in the process.

This is disturbing because an infamous previous ruler, known as the Mad King, liked to burn his opposition with wildfire, too.

Because of this, Jon Snow doesn't trust Cersei, instinctively believing that she will stab him in the back.

Though he's trying making nice with her (sort of), he's keeping her at an arm's distance and instead taking his first chances with Daenerys.

17 Daenerys Might Be Fine With Being With Her Nephew - but Jon Probably isn't

We can tell from the first time we see Daenerys and her brother, Viserys, that things are a little off in their family.

Viserys casually stands there, exclaiming his sister and saying, "you have a woman's body now," which is a bit more than creepy.

It goes even further than that, though: Daenerys' parents were brother and sister. So inbreeding is pretty common in the Targaryen family. However, luckily Daenerys doesn't have any defects to show for it - at least that we know of.

So while Daenerys would be surprised to find out that she's Jon's aunt, but it might not be a deal breaker for her.

Jon, on the other hand, is more traditional, and would probably balk at having a romance with a member of his own family.

16 Their First Meeting Was Awkward

Daenerys and Jon Snow's first meeting was hilarious.

Daenerys right-hand woman, Missandei, announces, "You stand in the presence of Daenerys Stormborn of House Targaryen, rightful heir to the Iron Throne, rightful Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Protector of the Seven Kingdoms, the Mother of Dragons, the Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, the Unburnt, the Breaker of Chains."

To this, Jon Snow's man Davos Seaworth replies, "This is Jon Snow… He’s King in the North."

Daenerys feels like she must announce her grandeur, while Jon prefers things short and to the point.

He's beyond all of the pomp and circumstance at this point — he's just trying to save everyone from the White Walkers.

Later she asks, "I assume you're here to bend the knee?" He responds, "I am not." "Oh," she says, "That is unfortunate."

Talk about awkward.

15 She Shortly Held Him Prisoner

Jon Snow rightfully reminds Daenerys that he has no birthright and that the men who appointed him leader did it out of trust and because he earned it. So he's coming to her to lead his people the best he can to get help in defeating the imminent threat.

Daenerys replies, "That's fair. It's also fair to point out I am the rightful Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. By declaring yourself King of the northernmost Kingdom, you are in open rebellion."

It's looking bad for Jon for a minute then Daenerys offers to get them a hot bath and have dinner sent to their rooms.

"Am I your prisoner?" Jon asks. "Not yet," she replies.

However, Jon and his men are commanded to go to their rooms, which means that they are prisoners, as they are unable to leave.

14 It Was Jon Who Convinced Daenerys That The White Walkers Were Real

Things start to thaw between Jon Snow and Daenerys, but neither of them initially budge from the first position.

Daenerys still demands that Jon bend the knee, and Jon still refuses.

However, Jon does make some headway in convincing her that an actual threat exists, and Daenerys offers to let him and his men mine as much dragonglass as they need for weapons against the White Walkers, and even offers to supply him with some men to help.

While mining the caves for the dragonglass, Jon discovers ancient cave drawings that depict the Children of the Forest teaming up with the First Men to defeat the White Walkers.

With this evidence, Daenerys finally realizes that the White Walkers are real.

It's already been a weird, eventful day for Daenerys. She's met the self-proclaimed King of the North for the first time and just became persuaded that a giant army of the zombie-like warriors are on the march and threaten to destroy everyone.

Now she just discovered that one of her military campaigns failed and she lost the ally of Highgarden because the Lannisters sacked their castle.

In a rage, and unsure what to do, she asks Jon Snow for advice, which is a really unusual move for Daenerys.

Jon wisely advises that if she attacks with her dragon in a knee-jerk reaction and burns everything to the ground, she'll be no different than every other tyrant that tried to seize control, and Daenerys actually listens.

Daenerys knows that Jon is rational, and thus trusts his guidance.

12 She Loves How Jon Interacts With Her Dragons

Because of her rage and sheer military power, Daenerys raids the Lannister army outside of Highgarden with the Dothraki cavalry. She rides Drogon during the battle.

Drogon lays waste to the outmatched Lannister army, while the Dothraki pick off the stragglers. The battle was no contest.

When Daenerys returns to Dragonstone, she lands near Jon Snow on a cliff.

In what should have been a monumental clue to Jon's parentage, Jon gets along with her dragon swimmingly.

It appears that Drogon has already figured out what Daenerys has not — Jon has some Targaryen blood in his veins.

The look on Daenerys' face is one of intrigue. How can he get along with her precious dragons?

11 Daenerys Believes She Can't Have Children

Way back in season one, Daenerys was previously married to the chief of one of the biggest Dothraki tribes, Khal Drogo, and became pregnant with his child.

After they sacked a village, Daenerys rescued a number of women and pleaded with Drogo not to harm them.

However, Drogo is challenged by a would-be-chieftain who disagrees. Drogo prevails in the fight, but he suffers a serious injury.

Daenerys enlists the help of a local medicine woman from the sacked village who practices blood magic. She promises Daenerys that she can keep Drogo alive.

What she doesn't tell her, though, is that she's out for revenge, and Daenerys will lose her child as a sacrifice to keep Drogo in a vegetative state.

The woman delivers a cryptic prophecy that also implies that Daenerys is now barren.

However, it was vague enough to be open to interpretation.

10 Daenerys Puts Her Dragons On The Line For Jon

Jon Snow actually goes through his insane plan to abduct a White Walker to prove to everyone that they exist and are a real threat.

He takes a small "A-Team" of magnificent warriors and succeeds in confining a Walker. However, an army of White Walkers meets them and they become stranded on a small island in the middle of a lake that's starting to freeze over.

Once it does, there's no way that they can fight their way out alive.

Daenerys appears out of nowhere with her dragons in order to help Jon and his men.

She hoists the survivors of the party onto the dragon, except for Jon, who gets another seemingly divine intervention from a mysterious helper.

However, she loses one of her dragons to the White Walkers, which hits her extremely hard.

9 She Likes His Scars

When Daenerys finds Jon Snow alive after the semi-successful rescue from the White Walkers, he is recovering in Benjen Stark's home. It is there that she sees his scars for the first time.

These are the scars from when the Night Watch traitors stabbed Jon, seemingly causing his demise. The scars from the knife wounds are all over his body.

The look on her face is up to interpretation; awe that someone would survive such wounds, sympathy for what he endured, or maybe lust.

Jon finally bends the knee and Daenerys almost starts crying.

Sure, she loved that he was brave, that he got along with her dragons, and that he united his people, but now that she's seen him shirtless, she's ready to go all in.

8 They Both Won Legendary Battles

Daenerys has won quite a few battles during her burgeoning military career, resulting in a reputation that precedes her. However, Jon Snow is no slouch, either.

In a last-ditch attempt to retake Winterfell from the psychotic Ramsay Bolton, Jon united the houses he could and went in with what he knew might not be enough men to take the castle.

Sure enough, he was right. By the end, it looked like Ramsay had the upper hand and that Jon was surrounded.

Luckily, Sansa Stark had an ace up her sleeve and had previously summoned a secret cavalry to help when they most needed it.

This turned the tide of the battle and allowed Jon to retake Winterfell.

It was this battle that led to the Northern houses uniting and declaring Jon Snow King of the North.

7 They Both Have Seemingly Resurrected Themselves

Jon Snow thought that he was helping the North and the rest of the Westeros when he made an alliance with the wildlings, as he knew that they needed any help they could get.

However, many members of the Nights Watch felt differently and decided to lure Jon into a trap.

His "friends" then ganged up on him and stabbed him repeatedly.

However, later, with Mellisandre's magic, he was resurrected. Since this had never happened before, many members of the Nights Watch were both shocked and terrified.

Daenerys had was resurrected as well when she stepped into her husband's funeral pyre with her dragon eggs to seemingly end it all.

However, since she is immune to fire, when morning came, she was still standing, now with three baby dragons.

Like Jon, she became a deity to her followers.

6 They Both Harbor Dangerous and Fierce Animals As Companions

Dragons may be more dangerous than direwolves, but if you're talking about dangerous animals, direwolves are still pretty close to the top of the list.

Jon Snow adopted his direwolf, Ghost, when it was merely a pup.

Ghost bonded with Jon and grew with him, soon becoming his closest and most loyal companion.

Daenerys, of course, views her dragons as her children, and they are very protective of her. Indeed, when she lost Viserion when she rescued Jon and his party from the White Walkers, she was devastated.

It's interesting that Jon and Daenerys both have such lethal animals as companions.

It speaks a lot to their courageous spirits and how they might find each other appealing.

5 They Both United Their Regions

Overall, it's been a long journey for Jon Snow, involving his temporary demise and the loss of his true love. However, he finally united the wildlings and the houses of the North after both groups worked together to retake Winterfell.

His leadership in the Night's Watch and his leadership in confronting House Bolton helped to unit the region.

He managed all of this with no legitimate birthright.

Daenerys, too, impressively brought many groups of people together, freeing countless slaves in the process. The Dothraki, the people in Dragon's Bay, the Unsullied army, and now The King of the North are all at her side.

Together, Jon and Daenerys make a formidable power couple.

4 Jon Believes Daenerys CAN Have Children

Jon Snow might not be an optimist, but  he's accomplished many things that people said couldn't be done, including returning to the world of the living after his demise.

When Daenerys tells him that she doesn't think she could have children, Jon asks, “Who told you that?” Daenerys replies that is it the witch who tried to take her late husband's life.

Replies Jon, “Has it occurred to you she might not have been a reliable source of information?”

Jon has a point, as the witch who was instrumental in ending the lives of Daenerys' baby and her husband could have lied to her about her infertility.

Let's just say that Jon is pretty skeptical when someone tells him that something is impossible.

3 Tyrion Heard Them Getting Together For The First Time

At the end of season 7, it seems that Jon Snow got his wish, as he obtained the help of Cersei, Daenerys, and the North's armies to stop the White Walkers.

Daenerys agrees to sail with Jon to the North, with the rest of her armies arriving by ship.

Jon, probably waiting for the exact right time, knocks on her cabin door and she lets him in. It isn't long before they fall into each other's arms in a fit of passion.

However, as we cut away, we see Tyrion listening to the entire scene. Does he know about Jon's secret parentage? Is he jealous of Jon? Does he have a plan or is something worrying him?

He drinks and he knows things - we just don't always know what those things are.

2 Emilia Clark and Kit Harrington Have Been Taking Adorable Selfies On Set

When you're an actor on set working with the same people for seven years, it's hard not to bond with them.

Kit Harrington actually married Rose Leslie who played his first love interest on the show, Ygritte.

Harrington is also close to someone else on set - he and Emilia Clark have become great friends.

Last season, the two actors took a series of goofy selfies on set.

It's refreshing to see Harrington smiling with his glasses on, looking more like a normal person and less like a brooding leader with the weight of the world on his shoulders.

Similarly, it's also great to see Clark making a funny face that's so different from her prim and proper Daenerys character.

1 The Characters Didn't Meet In the Story Until Season 7

Although fans have been watching the show for seven years and have seen all of the characters separately in nearly every episode, the actors themselves didn't always work closely with one another.

For example, Jon and Daenerys didn't share a scene until season 7. When they finally did meet, though, it was awkward and nobody really got what they wanted.

However, with the final season on the way, it seems like it was worth the wait.

We finished the season with Jon Snow and Daenerys finally getting romantic, but we're also burdened with the awful knowledge that they are directly related. Though many fans originally wanted to see the two together, they now regret it.
