Michael Myers Prepares for Attack in New Halloween Image

Michael Myers is ready to launch his next night of terror in a new still from Blumhouse’s Halloween. This latest Halloween will untangle itself from the twisted continuity of previous sequels by ignoring everything but John Carpenter’s original. The movie will also shed the somewhat controversial revelation that Michael and series heroine Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) are actually siblings, which was introduced in 1981’s Halloween II and carried over to the rest of the franchise, including Rob Zombie's remakes.

Hitting the reboot switch also allows Laurie to return to face Michael again, as the character previously died in 2002’s much-maligned Halloween: Resurrection. This new entry will be set 40 years on from the events of Halloween, with Michael breaking out of an asylum and launching a fresh killing spree in Haddonfield. His target is Laurie, who has been preparing herself for decades for his inevitable reappearance. Laurie must also protect her daughter and granddaughter from Michael’s bloody night of vengeance.

The role of Michael in the new movie will be split between Nick Castle, who portrayed the character in the 1978 movie, and James Jude Courtney. While Michael will be over the age of 60 in the new sequel, that doesn’t make him any less dangerous, which can be seen in a brand new still image from EW.

Halloween will be a real reunion for the key crew behind the first movie, including Curtis, Castle and series creator John Carpenter. Carpenter never intended for Halloween to become a franchise, and he made sure to kill Michael for good at the end of Halloween II by burning him to a crisp. He tried to turn the series into an annual anthology with 1982’s Halloween III: Season Of The Witch, with the holiday itself being the uniting theme. The third movie’s lukewarm box office and fan anger over the lack of Michael Myers saw the character resurrected for Halloween IV, and Carpenter exited the series.

Blumhouse wanted to make Halloween 2018 an event, however, and made it their mission to bring back the series creator. Carpenter was impressed enough with director David Gordon Green and co-writer Danny McBride’s script to sign on. In addition to being creatively hands-on he’ll also provide a brand new score for the project, like he did with the first three movies and most of his other directorial output.
