Netflix has a whole lot of new programming coming in August - and while there are plenty of the usual Netflix Original Series and classic films to enjoy, that’s not the only new thing to hit the streaming service this month. Netflix has also added profile icons, so that users can create profiles a little more interesting that the classic colored boxes that we’ve had for years.

Now, it’s possible to customize your profile with the image of a Netflix Original Series character, including The Defenders and the cast of Orange Is The New Black (if you are still bingeing the latest season, which came out at the end of July). Beyond that fun new feature, however, here are the best new arrivals for the month.

15. Batman Begins

The first of Christopher Nolan’s seminal trilogy that rebooted the big-screen Batman, Batman Begins, comes to Netflix on the first of the month. If you haven’t seen it yet, now is the perfect time - although it’s worth noting that the next two films in the series (The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises) are not available to stream right now, so a good ol’ binge session isn’t going to happen.

Arriving: August 1

14. Clerks

If you are a fan of Kevin Smith’s particular brand of humor, you may be watching to see how his latest show, Hollyweed, fares on Rivet - a platform where fans directly decide the fate of a show, episode by episode. Smith has compared the project to Clerks, describing it as "Clerks in a weed store" and if that has made you want to re-watch his original comedy, you are in luck! Clerks hits Netflix on August 1.

13. Million Dollar Baby

In the mood to cry your eyes out? Look no further than Million Dollar Baby, the Oscar-winning film about a determined female boxer who finds a grizzled old fighter to train her. Not only did this movie win Best Picture, but it features a star-studded cast, including Morgan Freeman, Clint Eastwood, and Hilary Swank. Be warned, though, this is definitely one that will have you reaching for the tissues.

Arriving: August 1

12. Secretariat

This family-friendly drama is based on the book of the same name, which is (in turn) based on the horse of the same name. Secretariat tells the charming and inspirational story of a housewife and mother in the 70s who finds herself running a stable, and with the help of a veteran trainer, even finds herself fostering a horse that would go on to become world famous. This sweet Disney drama is perfect for keeping the family entertained.

11. Steel Magnolias

It’s been nearly thirty years since Steel Magnolias first hit the big screen (and over thirty since the play that it is based on was written), and it’s still as heartwarming as ever. The story of the ups and downs of the lives of a group of women in a small-town Southern community, it’s the perfect film about female friendships. It’s also got an incredible cast, including Dolly Parton, Julia Roberts, Sally Field, Shirley MacLaine and Daryl Hannah.

Arriving: August 1

10. The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring

Another famous trilogy installment hits Netflix this month, as the first film in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings series (The Fellowship Of The Ring) arrives on August 1. However, just like with Batman Begins, the rest of this trilogy is not currently available to stream, so fans will just have to enjoy the first part of Frodo Baggins’ journey to Mordor, and hope that the rest arrive soon.
