The official synopsis for the upcoming remake of Stephen King's Pet Sematary has been revealed. Just like the reimagining of King's other horrifying tale, IT, audiences can prepare for even more thrills and chills from the master of horror. The cast is finally complete with the young actors, and more information about the film's plot has been unearthed.

Following the success of his novels Carrie, The Shining, and Cujo, among others, Pet Semetary hit book shelves in 1983. The first adaption of King's novel was made for the screen in 1989. While, the film isn't the most popular, there's reason to hope that the latest adaptation will make up for what the first film may have lacked for fans. And, even more so, capture the terror of King's original novel.

While fans of the novel obviously know what the Pet Sematary movie will be about, Paramount Pictures has released the official synopsis, which teases an "unfathomable evil" (via EW). Check it out:

“Based on the seminal horror novel by Stephen King, Pet Sematary follows Dr. Louis Creed (Clarke), who, after relocating with his wife Rachel (Seimetz) and their two young children from Boston to rural Maine, discovers a mysterious burial ground hidden deep in the woods near the family’s new home. When tragedy strikes, Louis turns to his unusual neighbor, Jud Crandall (Lithgow), setting off a perilous chain reaction that unleashes an unfathomable evil with horrific consequences.”

In addition to releasing the synopsis, Paramount has also cast the children of the Creed family. Jeté Laurence will play the role of Ellie, with twins Hugo and Lucas Lavoie portraying her younger brother, Gage. The film also stars Jason Clarke and Amy Seimetz as parents Louis and Rachel Creed. With John Lithgow rounding at the cast as Jud Crandall, the Creeds' strange neighbor.

Starry Eyes filmmakers Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch are directing the adaptation, with Lorenzo di Bonaventura, whose credits include Transformers and the Stephen King adaptation 1408, producing the film alongside Mark Vahradian, who has also worked on the Transformers films, and Insidious' Steven Schneider. And the script for the film comes from Nightflyers showrunner Jeff Buhler.

Pet Semetary has the potential to be truly terrifying. If the reimagining of last summer's IT means anything, it's that recent adaptations know how to pump up the scares The '80s Pet Semetary films may have been less terrifying than audiences had hoped for. Perhaps the new film will learn from the past, find what went wrong, and create a terrifying new experience. With this talented cast, and a production team with a pension for spectacle, fans can only anticipate scares and horrors to come when the film releases.
