Red Dead Redemption 2 Appears to Be Coming to PC Too

by Matt Morrison – on Jun 24, 2018 in Game News

For years, PC gamers have begged Rockstar Games for an official release of their Western action/adventure game Red Dead Redemption. While it seems unlikely such a port will ever come into being, there is reason to believe that the long awaited sequel, Red Dead Redemption 2, will see an official release for PC.

A sequel to 2004's Red Dead Revolver, Red Dead Redemption was set in the declining years of The Old West. The action centered upon John Marston - a former outlaw, whose wife and son are taken hostage by the American government, in order to force Marston into working for them to bring three members of his former gang to justice. The game was as widely beloved for its unique morality system (which saw John gain or lose honor based on how he handled different situations, altering how other people in the game world reacted to him) as it was decried by moral watchdogs for its adult content. Shockingly, despite having apparently been made for the PC gamer market (which had traditionally been less morally uptight than the console gaming market), the game never saw an official release for the PC.

Thankfully, an image posted to the Red Dead Redemption Reddit group seems to confirm that the sequel will see an official PC release. The image shows a resume listing for a programmer at Rockstar Games, who lists his previous works as including Red Dead Redemption 2... for "PS4, XBox 1 and PC"!

While this hardly constitutes proof along the lines of an official statement from Rockstar Games or a working PC port of the upcoming game, hopeful PC gamers have still seized upon this as a sign that a PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 is in the works. Another sign of encouragement is that, within hours of the posting on Reddit, the original resume was apparently altered to remove any reference of the PC port of Red Dead Redemption 2. While this could just as easily be proof of a typo in the original resume, with the writer copy/pasting the system specs from another game and forgetting to delete the "PC" portion, some fans smell a cover-up in the works.

Sadly, the idea of this being a typo seems far more likely than Rockstar Games going this far out of their way to hide their development of a PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2, when they have already released so much material regarding the console versions of the game. While it stretches belief that the company would not consider a PC edition of the game when there is clearly a huge demand for it, the fact of the matter is that the console gamers market is larger and generally more profitable than the niche market offered by PC gamers. Hopes may run high, but it realistically seems that those hopes might best be buried up on Boot Hill.
