Sean Gunn Teases MCU Phase 4 Return As Kraglin

Sean Gunn teases his return Kraglin in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, possibly in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The actor played the Ravager in 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy and 2017's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, both of which were written and directed by his brother, James Gunn.

Kraglin, though a supporting role, has still been a highlight of the series. His character often came across as timid compared to the other Ravagers, and even as warm-hearted when he mourned the loss of his captain and friend Yondu at the end of Vol. 2. While most heroes in the MCU made an appearance in this year’s Avengers: Infinity War, Kraglin was one of few characters who did not show up because he has more important things to take care of elsewhere in the galaxy. It's unclear what that important stuff is or when audiences will see Kraglin again, but one thing's for sure, the character isn't gone just yet.

In an interview with Good Day Sacramento, Sean Gunn discussed his future in the MCU, particularly in regards to Avengers 4. Although Gunn confirms that he is indeed returning for Avengers 4 to provide the on-screen motion reference to Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper), as he had done in both Guardians of the Galaxy movies, he played coy about his appearance as Kraglin in the film. However, he did tease Kraglin's return sometime during Phase 4:

"I can neither confirm nor deny whether I’ll be in the next Avengers movie. I did work on it as Rocket, but as for my other character, I think we’ll just have to keep watching. I don’t think we’ve seen the last of him but there’s more coming somewhere."

Gunn’s answer could possibly indicate that Kraglin could make an appearance in next year's Avengers after all, especially considering it's supposed to be even bigger than Avengers: Infinity War was with regards to the number of characters on-screen. And with most of the Guardians now gone, it's possible the remaining heroes may turn to unlikely allies in this time of need.

If Kraglin doesn't show up in Avengers 4, though, then it's highly likely that he will at least make a final appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which is currently targeting a 2020 release date. But that doesn't mean he can't also appear in a different movie down the line or in a Guardians of the Galaxy spinoff. There's plenty of story to tell on that front, and it's possible that Kraglin could even join the original Guardians team on their adventures, should Marvel Studios choose to pursue a spinoff film with that crew as the leads - but it seems fans will just have to wait and see what happens.
