The German Disney-XD channel has released an official synopsis for the first episode of Star Wars: Resistance, "The Recruit". It introduces the show's main character, and gives a hint at just what to expect from the upcoming Star Wars animated series.
In April this year, Disney revealed that they were finally opening up the Star Wars timeline. They announced a new animated series, Star Wars: Resistance, set sometime between the events of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie are also playing animated versions of Poe Dameron and Captain Phasma in the series, while everyone's favorite rolling droid BB-8 will likewise show up.

According to German website Fernsehserien, the German Disney XD has just revealed quite a bit about the show. It seems the first season will run for 22 episodes, with the first episode bearing the title "The Recruit". Prominent German Star Wars fan JediFlorian took to Twitter with a translation of the synopsis:
Resistance fighter Poe Dameron tasks young pilot Kazuda "Kaz" Xiono with spying on the First Order. At the time, little was known about the secretive organization and its strength.
In order to fulfill his mission, Kaz travels to the space station Colossus, which is being used by many ships as a port to refuel and do repairs. However, there are also dangerous races taking place there. After Kaz bragged with his piloting skills at his arrival there, he is soon drawn into one of the races...
This synopsis confirms Disney's earlier announcement. The time between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens is still relatively unexplored in the Star Wars canon; the most important of the canon novels to date is Claudia Grey's Bloodline, which hints at the impending emergence of the First Order, and ends with Leia forming the Resistance. The animated series appears to be set shortly after this, with the Resistance attempting to learn everything they can about the mysterious new galactic power.
When Filoni first announced Star Wars: Resistance, he made a strange observation; "There’s a long history of high-speed racing in Star Wars," he pointed out, clearly implying that Resistance would honor that tradition. This synopsis hints at just how that will happen; Kaz is a spy, and his cover appears to be as a high-speed racer. The Colossus space station appears to be a brand new addition to the Star Wars galaxy, as the only previous "Colossus" is a planet in the Belgaroth sector.
Star Wars novels have already teased that the Resistance learned a lot about the First Order through its spy network. Delilah S. Dawson's novel Phasma, for example, revealed that even before The Force Awakens the Resistance knew the names and backgrounds of most high-level First Order operatives, and were even familiar with the First Order's internal politics. Kaz is likely to be an important figure in collecting this information - meaning viewers can get their first real in-depth look at life under the First Order by watching Star Wars: Resistance.
