The Conners are back, albeit without Roseanne, and to celebrate ABC has released the first teaser from the spin-off series.
The network announced the start of production yesterday with the first cast photo from set. As expected, the core cast is all returning for the spin-off, including the grandchildren who initially joined the Roseanne reboot. Of course, with production having only just begun, the teaser doesn’t actually include any new footage. Instead, it focuses solely on the iconic couch audiences have come to know. Carly Simon’s “Anticipation” plays as the video asks “What’s Next?”

The spin-off, of courses, comes after the Roseanne Barr-led Roseanne reboot was cancelled after the actress posted a racist tweet in reference to Valerie Jarrett, a former adviser to United States President Barack Obama. The move came as a surprise to many, as ABC often turned a blind eye to Barr’s notoriously controversial behavior, however, the decision was applauded by many in the media — including some of her fellow cast members.
While it remains to be seen how different The Conners will be without Barr’s character around, or how ABC will opt to write her out of the series, star John Goodman has teased that she may be killed off. “I guess he’ll be mopey and sad because his wife’s dead,” the actor said regarding Dan’s fate in the forthcoming series. Thankfully, with a little over a month until the show debuts, fans won’t have to wait much longer for answers.
