Gal Gadot confirmed to star in Showtime’s Hedy Lamarr miniseries
Showtime has confirmed that Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot has officially signed on for the leading role in the network’s upcoming biopic limited series which centers on the life of veteran actress and inventor Hedy Lamarr. The untitled series will be Gadot’s first starring role in a US television series.
“The life of Hedy Lamarr was a truly fascinating one. She stood at the forefront of many issues that challenge women and our society today,” Showtime’s Co-President of Entertainment Jana Winograde said in a statement. (via TVLine) “In Gal Gadot, we have found the transcendent actress to portray the deeply complex Lamarr. And with the award-winning talents of Sarah Treem and Warren Littlefield, this is going to be a special series.”

In addition, Gadot will also serve as an executive producer along with Sarah Treem (The Affair), Warren Littlefield (The Handmaid’s Tale), Katie Robbins (The Last Tycoon) and Jaron Varsano (My Dearest Fidel).
Austrian-born Hedy Lamarr was a popular actress in the 1940s, starring in such films as Algiers, Boom Town, I Take This Woman, Comrade X, Come Live with Me and Samson and Delilah. However, she is most famous for her work as an inventor. During World War II she helped create a radio guidance system for allied torpedoes that utilized spectrum and frequency. Today, this same technology is used to enable Bluetooth and WiFi. At the age of 85, Lamarr passed away due to a heart disease in 2000.

Gal Gadot will next be in seen in a number of high-profile projects including: the highly-anticipated sequel Wonder Woman 1984 which will premiere on June 2020; Death on the Nile opposite Armie Hammer and Annette Bening; and Red Notice starring alongside Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds.
