Agents of SHIELD Season 6 Confirmed For July 2019 Debut

The sixth season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will premiere in 11 months, according to co-star Elizabeth Henstridge. Responding on Instragram to a fan’s question, the actor confirmed the ABC drama will return in July 2019.

Big changes are afoot for S.H.I.E.L.D., behind the scenes as well as within the story. After Clark Gregg’s Phil Coulson discovered he was dying in Season 5, he stepped down as director and settled in Tahiti, suggesting his character will be largely off-screen in Season 6. However, Gregg himself will be returning to direct the season premiere, titled “Missing Pieces.”

The season will be just 13 episodes, but ABC has assured fans there are no plans to cancel the series. The summer release date is intended to expand viewership.

If Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. aims to continue its efforts to weave into the timeline established by the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the July premiere will also open the possibility of addressing the impact of Avengers: Infinity War and its untitled sequel, which will hit theaters in May 2019.
