John Landgraf, CEO of FX Networks and Productions, announced today the network is picking up Devs, a new mini-series for 2019 by Ex Machina writer and director Alex Garland.
Garland will executive produce with his Annihilation and Ex Machina collaborators Eli Bush and Scott Rudin as well as Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich of DNA TV. He will also direct every episode of the series, eight in total.
“After reading all eight scripts and hearing Alex’s brilliant vision and commitment to direct all of the episodes, it was an easy decision to order Devs to series,” Landgraf said. “Alex is a visionary artist who with his partners has put together a stellar cast.”
The cast was also announced and will comprise of Sonoya Mizuno, Nick Offerman, Jin Ha, Zach Grenier, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Cailee Spaeny and Alison Pill.
Initially developed as a pilot, Devs is about a young computer engineer named Lily Chan, played by Mizuno, who investigates a secret division of her employer, cutting-edge San Francisco tech company Amaya, she suspects is guilty of the murder of her former boyfriend, a cybersecurity specialist portrayed by Jin Ha.

Offerman will play the CEO of Amaya, Forest, a man obsessed with his company’s covert work in its suspicious development division. Stephen McKinley Henderson will be Stewart, a cultured intellectual from another era and one of the top technical minds working in Amaya’s secret development division.
Cailee Spaeny, most recently starring in Pacific Rim Uprising, will play Lyndon, a young, brilliant, and stubborn employee who works in Amaya’s secret development division.
Grenier playing Kenton, head of security at Amaya, and Allison Pill as Katie, a gifted quantum physicist tapped by Forest to be his second in command at Amaya, round out the cast.
“We are grateful to Alex, Andrew, Allon, Scott, Eli and the brilliant casting team led by Carmen Cuba,” Landgraf said.
Garland’s Annihilation hasn’t been given an airdate.
