Kristen Chenoweth has confirmed that she won’t be appearing in the upcoming season of American Gods.
Chenoweth (Trial and Error) appeared in the first season of the Starz adaptation of the Neil Gaiman novel. She played Easter, a god of fertility and spring who the enigmatic Mr. Wednesday tries to recruit for his upcoming war with the “new” gods. American Gods has been going through a great deal of behind-the-scenes drama following the departure of original head writer/showrunners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green.

While speaking to TVLine about her involvement in the upcoming NBC special A Very Wicked Halloween, Chenoweth explained that she has a great deal of loyalty to Fuller, who had previously worked with the actor on Pushing Daises. That loyalty seems to make coming back to the show without him a non-starter.
“I couldn’t come back without him,” said Chenoweth. “Bryan’s my guy.”
Chenoweth isn’t the first cast member to announce they wouldn’t not be coming back to the fantasy series. Gillian Anderson, who played Media in the first season, announced last year that she would not be returning to the show either.
American Gods is scheduled to return to Starz sometime in 2019.
