Ahead of Batwoman’s introduction this fall as part of this year’s Arrowverse crossover comes word that the DC hero is targeting her own series on The CW.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project is being overseen by producer Greg Berlanti, and written by Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries). She will executive produce alongside Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Geoff Johns.

This version of Batwoman, Kate Kane, was introduced in 2006 as a socialite who dons a cape and cowl to fight crime in Gotham City. In what reads like a logline for the new series, THR describes her as “an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet: in a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.”

That would certainly suggest The CW’s version of Batwoman will be based in Gotham, the traditional territory of Batman, and the setting of Fox’s Gotham, which draws to a conclusion with its next season. Although the city has been referenced in the Arrowverse series, and its neighboring Bludhaven glimpsed, this would be the first time Gotham City has been depicted within that shared universe.
If ordered by The CW, Batwoman would join Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl and Black Lightning on the network’s slate of DC-based series.
