Following a surprise appearance after the credits for the Season 2 finale of Marvel’s Iron Fist, Netflix has officially released the stinger teasing the upcoming third season of Daredevil.
The brief scene finds Charlie Cox as a bloody Matt Murdock, back in his original black suit and mask, making an incredibly bleak confession. “I once believed that justice could be found in a court of law, and in the light of day,” he says to an unseen confessor. “But I was fooling myself. Darkness only responds to darkness. And the truth is, I’d rather die as the Devil than live as Matt Murdock.”
When last viewers saw Matt, in The Defenders, he was presumed dead by his allies and enemies, buried beneath the rubble of Midland Circle following the fight against The Hand, and his former lover Elektra (Elodie Yung), leaving Danny Rand (Finn Jones) to protect New York City in his place. But of course the final scene of the miniseries, which draws directly from the seminal 1986 Marvel Comics storyline “Born Again,” reveals Matt to be injured but alive, under the care of nuns.
