WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Marvel’s Daredevil Season 3, streaming now on Netflix.
One of the most welcome additions to the third season of Daredevil was FBI Special Agent Ray Nadeem, a beleaguered family man who struggles to provide for his wife and son. At the beginning of the new season, incarcerated crime lord Wilson Fisk cuts a deal with Nadeem to transfer to house arrest but is eventually killed by fellow FBI agent gone rogue, Benjamin Poindexter who works with the Kingpin as the villainous Bullseye.
In new interview, actor Jay Ali, who portrays Nadeem, revealed that the FBI agent’s death was not always a sure thing.

“When [showrunner Erik Oleson] told me that [Nadeem would die], I was like, ‘Okay, this is gonna be great. It’s gonna be a great arc,'” explained Ali in an interview with ComicBook.com when he first learned of Nadeem’s impending death. “Then I remember halfway through the season, he came to me and he was like, ‘Look, we’re thinking of not actually killing Ray.’ But we had a discussion about it, and we were like, ‘It’s the right thing to do for the story, to do that.'”
So while Nadeem’s death had been originally intended for character, a proposed last-minute rewrite could’ve saved the character to potentially appear in future stories across Netflix’s Marvel series. Instead, the family man became another victim at the hands of Poindexter and helped illustrate the former lawman’s descent into psychotic villainy.
