The first trailer for Young Justice: Outsiders won’t debut until Friday, but Comic-Con International in San Diego is already revealing new information about the show’s anticipated return.
Earlier today, a photo of DC Entertainment’s SDCC booth was shared on Twitter by series producer Greg Weisman. While the artwork decorating the booth showcases several heroes we’ve already seen in previously released art, it also confirms what many fans have been hoping: Season 3 will feature Vandal Savage and Darkseid as two of the show’s main villains.

It’s been expected that this pair would be involved in the series’ third season storyline since they closed out Young Justice: Season 2, but neither one has been explicitly named in any of the promotional material for Outsiders.

Savage was a regular presence throughout the series, as one of the founding members of the Light and thus one of those responsible for the cloning of Superman, resulting in the “birth” of Superboy/Kon-El. However, he rarely came face to face with the team of young heroes, preferring to operate from the shadows as often as possible.
Darkseid, on the other hand, didn’t make an appearance until the final moments of Season 2’s finale, when he greeted Vandal Savage on Apokalips, shaking the immortal villain’s hand as part of the show’s cliffhanger ending.
Since then, fans have hoped to learn what, exactly, the villains had planned for Earth. Early descriptions of Outsiders‘ over-arching plot promise “the season focuses on meta–trafficking, and an intergalactic arms race for control of these super–powered youths,” a storyline Darkseid and Savage are the perfect fit for.
Executive produced by Sam Register, and produced by co-creators Vietti and Greg Weisman, Young Justice: Outsiders will find the teen heroes facing their greatest challenge as they fight meta-human trafficking “and the terrifying threat it creates for a society caught in the crossfire of a genetic arms race spanning the globe and the galaxy.”
Young Justice: Outsiders is planned for 26 episodes, debuting on DC Universe in 2019.
