Denzel Washington has never been approached by Marvel or DC for a potential superhero role. Superhero movies and franchises are the bread and butter of Hollywood right now, and it seems like almost every actor has either been cast or rumored to join one of the popular comic book film series. But as it turns out, Washington has never been in talks for any superhero gig, the Academy Award-winning actor revealed himself.
The 63-year-old actor is often dubbed one of the most versatile in Hollywood. Having been active in the business since 1975, he's collected a slew of accolades including two Oscars: first for Best Supporting Actor in the 1989 war drama film Glory, and as Best Actor in 2001's Training Day, directed by Antoine Fuqua. Aside from acting, he's also dabbled in directing, helming (and starring) in the Academy Award Best Picture nominee, Fences. Given Washington's brilliant career portfolio, one would assume that studios have courted him to join their respective superhero franchises. However, that's not the case.

During a recent interview with JOE.ie while doing the promotional rounds for his latest project, The Equalizer 2 (which Fuqua also directed), Washington revealed that he's surprisingly never been offered a Marvel or DC superhero role. "I haven’t been approached… we’ll see what happens. Never say never," he said, keeping the door open in case an opportunity comes his way to join either the MCU or the DCEU in any capacity. Considering Washington's comments, it seems likely that both Disney and Warner Bros. will soon be scrambling to reach out to him, as any franchise would be foolish to not want an actor of his caliber involved.
For what it's worth, Washington has a special connection with Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman. Apparently, the veteran actor sponsored Boseman's education at Oxford University. It wasn't until this year that that information came to light, after the Marvel star opened up about it while promoting his breakthrough film. Other than that link with Boseman, Washington was previously rumored to play Green Lantern in DC's Batman V Superman. Judging by his latest comments though, it doesn't seem like that ever progressed beyond hearsay, given that he evidently didn't even know about it.
Additionally, Fuqua is set for a meeting with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige for a potential gig. The filmmaker recently said so himself, although he didn't reveal any concrete details about what they're supposed to talk about. He made it clear, however, that if he ever boards the MCU, it will be for the right reasons, and not just because he wants to join the franchise. Perhaps if the meeting between Fuqua and Feige goes well, the filmmaker will be able to bring Washington with him to the MCU. After all, the two are frequent collaborators.
