Scripted by Quantico‘s Michael Seitzman, the series, which has reportedly been in the works for months, will follow classic villains The Beast from Beauty and the Beast, Ursula from The Little Mermaid and the witch from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in a manner similar to the long-running ABC fantasy drama Once Upon a Time.
Seitzman has also signed on to produce the series through the ABC-based Maniac Productions and will be distributed through ABC Signature Studios, who have also produced the Showtime dramedy SMILF, the Hulu adaptation of Marvel’s Runaways and the Freeform adaptation of Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger and Freeform’s Grown-ish, the acclaimed spin-off of the hit ABC comedy Black-ish.

The service, which has been in development for nearly three years now, is already set to have an extensive library of original content upon its expected fall 2019 debut, from the TV spin-offs of the Star Wars franchise, The Mandalorian, a prequel series to the Rogue One spin-off focusing on Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor and a seventh season of the acclaimed animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Disney+ is also developing a series adaptation of the Disney Channel hit film franchise High School Musical and the 2000 romantic dramedy High Fidelity, along with a live-action remake of the studio’s classic love story Lady and the Tramp starring Tessa Thompson (Thor: Ragnarok) and Justin Theroux (The Leftovers) in the lead voice roles.
