With its final season arriving next year, the hit HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones has gone to great lengths to prevent any spoilers from getting out, such as destroying physical copies of scripts. But according to one of the stars, the precautions went even further, with a “drone killer” utilized to prevent any aerial spying on the production.
The tactic was first mentioned Sunday by Sophie Turner at New York Comic Con. “If a drone flies above sets, there’s a thing that can kill the drones, which is really cool,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “It creates a field around it and the drones just drop. It’s very X-Men.”

A “drone killer” is a gun-like electronic device typically used by police to disables drones and force them back to Earth. HBO had gone so far as to work with Northern Ireland authorities to prevent the taking of unauthorized photographs, and labeled sets with no-fly zone warnings. HBO clearly spared no expense to prevent plot points from Game of Thrones from leaking out before the series arrives.
The final season of Game of Thrones will be released in the first half of 2019.
