Gotham: Character Breakdown Teases Villain’s Live-Action Debut

As production continues on the final season of Gotham, more characters are joining the Fox drama’s roster of  guest stars. On the heels of the announcement of actor Shane West joining the cast, likely as Bane’s father, a new character breakdown leaked reveals casting is underway for avian villainess Magpie.

According to That Hashtag Show, the production is looking for a woman of any ethnicity in her 30s. A thief attracted to shiny objects, the breakdown indicates Magpie will run afoul of Penguin. As the breakdown specifies the actor’s guest star status, Magpie may only appear in one episode in Gotham Season 5. Her appearance on the show will mark her first live-action appearance.

Created by John Byrne and Barbara Randell Kesel, Magpie — a curator at the Gotham Museum of Antiquities whose real name is Margaret Pye — debuted in the pages of 1986’s Batman #401 (“A Bird in the Hand…”). Also known as Magpie, a moniker Margaret had since childhood, the character terrorized Gotham socialites and she became obsessed with owning all priceless artifacts. Magpie also showed up as the villain of the week on Cartoon Network’s Beware The Bat in 2013, suffering from a split personality.

Robin Lord Taylor, at the prospect of his character crossing paths with Magpie, commented, “anytime he interacts with these characters it changes him and makes his character more interesting, and it gives him something to overcome.”
