When Season 4 of Gotham reached its conclusion, Jeremiah Valeska and Ra’s Al Ghul joined forces to attack Gotham City. Its bridges collapsed, and the metropolis was left cut off from the rest of the world, its citizens now left to fend for themselves in a land without law or order. The neighborhoods were carved up and divided under the control of various gangs and villains, and Bruce Wayne, Jim Gordon and a few other allies are all that is left to help save the city and pull it back from this devastating darkness.
Given this shocking conclusion, it was obvious that Gotham’s upcoming fifth and final season would be inspired by two classic Batman comic book storylines: No Man’s Land and Zero Year. However, it now appears like a third comic might serve as basis for Season 5: Frank Millers’s quintessential graphic novel, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns.

With filming of Season 5 currently underway, some pictures from the set of the series have found their way online, revealing a new villainous addition to the streets of Gotham City: the Mutant Gang and its terrifying boss, the Mutant Leader. The pictures show a large, shirtless man wearing a Mohawk and sporting a red visor, as well as a couple of his followers, who are also wearing red visors.
