The CW has released the first promo photos and synopsis for iZombie‘s upcoming fifth and final season premiere titled “Thug Death,” giving us a glimpse of Team Z working on their newest mission. Starring Rose McIver (Masters of Sex) as brain-eating zombie Olivia “Liv” Moore, the series is set to return on May 2. Check out the full photos in the gallery below!

Episode 5.01 is directed by Dan Etheridge from a script written by Rob Thomas. Its official synopsis reads:

“YOUR FAVORITE ZOM-COM-ROM-DRAM IS BACK FOR ITS FINAL SEASON! – While investigating a murder case with no body and no brain to eat, the only evidence Liv (Rose McIver) and Clive (Malcolm Goodwin) have to work with is a grainy video and a little bit of blood found at the crime scene. Meanwhile, Blaine (David Anders) is up to his old tricks.”

The series also stars Malcolm Goodwin (Breakout Kings) as Clive Babineaux, Rahul Kohli as Dr. Ravi Chakrabarti, Robert Buckley (One Tree Hill) as Major Lilywhite, David Anders (The Vampire Diaries) as Blaine DeBeers, Aly Michalka (Hellcats) as Peyton Charles, Bryce Hodgson as Don Everhart and Robert Knepper (Prison Break) as Angus McDonough.

NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (Airplane!) has also been cast to appear in the final season for a supporting role. His character is described as one of the two members of the Seattle City Council who didn’t leave the city after the wall was built.

Based upon the characters created by Chris Roberson and Michael Allred, and published by DC Entertainment’s Vertigo imprint, iZombie is from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Spondoolie Productions and Warner Bros. Television, with executive producers Rob Thomas (Veronica Mars, Party Down, Cupid), Diane Ruggiero-Wright (The Ex List, That’s Life), Danielle Stokdyk and Dan Etheridge.
