Jon Favreau’s Star Wars Series Cost-Per-Season Could Rival Game of Thrones’

Jon Favreau’s live-action Star Wars series is coming exclusively to Disney’s upcoming premium streaming service and it looks like every episode comes with a hefty price tag.

The ten-episode first season of the still-untitled series will have a production budget of approximately $100 million. Comparatively, the sixth season of HBO’s Game of Thrones, the final season to feature ten episodes, had a reported production budget of more than $100 million. This makes the eagerly anticipated series one of the most expensive TV shows of all time.

First announced in November, Favreau became attached to the LucasFilm production this past March as producer and writer. While specifics about the upcoming series are still currently under wraps, filming is expected to begin at the end of the year for a 2019 premiere on the streaming service.

With most of Disney’s original content for their new platform budgeted at $20-60 million, this also makes the series the most expensive production announced for the platform. It will join the Star Wars: The Clone Wars revival as exclusive Star Wars content for the currently untitled streaming service.

“Star Wars is a big world and Disney’s new streaming service affords a wonderful opportunity to tell stories that stretch out over multiple chapters,” explained Favreau in an interview with The New York Times.

May the Force be with them.
