Following the tumultuous departure of Lethal Weapon co-star Clayne Crawford earlier this year, it was announced Seann William Scott (American Pie) would take his spot on the show. Instead of playing Martin Riggs or a related character, it’s now been revealed Scott will be playing a brand new character.
Deadline reports Scott will take on the role of Wesley Cole, a former war veteran trying to juggle his new life with his duties as a father. Maggie Lawson (Psych) is slated to play Cole’s ex-girlfriend, Natalie Flynn, a nurse and the mother of his child. Their backstory will have them meeting overseas while she was serving as a medic. A brief fling ended with the birth of their child, and ten years later Cole moving to Los Angeles to be closer to his estranged family. Cole will presumably end up as a member of the LAPD, partnered with Roger Murtaugh for the third season.

Scott was announced as the new co-star of the series in May. He will appear alongside Damon Wayans Jr. in the upcoming third season of the show. Due to on-set behavior that ranged from rude to straight up dangerous, former star Crawford (who played Riggs in the adaptation of the landmark action series), was fired from the show. It was promptly announced that Scott would replace Crawford on the series.
Lethal Weapon will begin its 13-episode third season later this fall on Fox.
