Lost Producers Issue Apology to Evangeline Lilly for On-Set Discomfort

The producers of ABC’s Lost have issued an apology to actress Evangeline Lilly after she stated in an interview that she felt “cornered” when partially nude scenes were written for her character.

As reported by Deadline, creators and executive producers J.J. Abrams, Jack Bender, Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof have issued a joint statement apology for the alleged incidents on the show.

“Our response to Evie’s comments in the media was to immediately reach out to her to profoundly apologize for the experience she detailed while working on Lost,” the statement read. “We have not yet connected with her, but remain deeply and sincerely sorry. No person should ever feel unsafe at work. Period.”

Lilly claimed in a recent podcast interview that she was “mortified and trembling” after filming a scene for Lost that required her to partially disrobe.

“In season 3, I’d had a bad experience on set with being basically cornered into doing a scene partially naked, and I felt had no choice in the matter,” Lilly said. “And I was mortified and I was trembling and when it finished, I was crying my eyes out and I had to go on do a very formidable, very strong scene thereafter.”

The actress also explained that a similar moment occurred during the filming of the fourth season.

“In season 4, another scene came up where Kate was undressing and I fought very hard to have that scene be under my control and I failed to control it again,” Lilly said. “And so I then said, ‘That’s it, no more. You can write whatever you want – I won’t do it. I will never take my clothes off on this show again,’ and I didn’t.”

Lilly has made it clear that she is no fan of the direction that her character Kate Austen took on the show, claiming that she “went from being autonomous – really having her own story, journey and agendas – to chasing two men around the island,” and that it “irritated the shit out of [her].”

The actress has also previously said that she was injured during a stunt due to the “misogynistic” actions of an unnamed stunt coordinator.

Evangeline Lilly can currently be seen in Ant-Man and The Wasp, directed by Peyton Reed and also starring Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer, Laurence Fishburne and Hannah John-Kamen. The movie is in theaters now. Avengers 4 is set for release on May 3, 2019.
