NBC renews This is Us for 3 additional seasons!
NBC has signaled the faith it has in the tear-jerking sitcom This is Us by renewing it for three additional seasons. The renewal is an unprecedented move for a network, and shows the confidence the Home of the Peacock has in series creator Dan Fogelman’s storytelling in the long-term.
For the current season, This Is Us averaged a 3.79 rating in adults 18-49 and 13.8 million viewers overall in “live plus seven day” Nielsen ratings, making it currently the season’s #1 entertainment series on any broadcast network in 18-49, as well as the #2 drama in total viewers.
“In a television landscape with nearly 500 original scripted series, there are very few, if any, that have the critical and cultural impact of ‘This Is Us’ and we couldn’t be more proud to bring fans three more seasons of a show that so well represents the NBC brand,” said Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta, NBC’s Presidents of Scripted Programming. “A huge thank you and congratulations to our executive producers, cast and crew who reach new heights every week with the show’s inventive and compelling storytelling.”
This Is Us is a refreshingly honest and provocative series that follows a unique ensemble whose paths cross and their life stories intertwine in curious ways. We find several of them share the same birthday, and so much more than anyone would expect. This Is Us is a smart, modern series that will challenge your everyday presumptions about the people you think you know.
The cast includes Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, Justin Hartley, Chrissy Metz, Sterling K. Brown, Susan Kelechi Watson, Chris Sullivan, Michael Angarano, and Ron Cephas Jones.
Fogelman serves as writer and executive producer with Don Todd. Jess Rosenthal, Charlie Gogolak and directors Ken Olin, John Requa, and Glenn Ficarra also executive produce. This Is Us is produced by 20th Century Fox Television.
This Is Us airs Tuesday nights on NBC.
