The outlet notes that the new series is not acting as a spinoff or a reboot of the original. The show will be a completely new story that happens to be set in the same world. Producers are currently seeking a writer for the series and will be bringing in people to pitch different takes on the show. It has not yet been confirmed if the new series will air on multiple networks as Orphan Black aired on BBC America in the U.S.
The original Orphan Black received considerable critical and award attention. It earned a Peabody Award in 2014, and lead actress Tatiana Maslany has received a 2015 Emmy nomination for Best Actress, two Critics’ Choice Awards for Best Actress, a TCA Award for Individual Achievement, a Young Hollywood Award, a Gracie Award, two Canadian Screen Awards and Golden Globe, SAG and People’s Choice nominations.
