Only One of the Russo Brothers Survived Thanos' Reddit Snap

Only One of the Russo Brothers Survived Thanos' Reddit Snap

After a Reddit subforum-wide event banned half of its members - mimicking Thanos' Avengers: Infinity War goal - only one Russo Brother has apparently been spared. While Marvel Studios continues to be cagey about what happens next after Thanos' galactic genocide, fans are looking for ways to busy themselves while waiting for any official news about next year's Avengers 4. Currently, the popular topic of conversation is a Reddit incident that would probably make Thanos proud.

Last week, popular subreddit r/ThanosDidNothingWrong, announced its plans to ban half of its users, as an homage to how the Mad Titan wiped out half of the life in the galaxy in an effort to achieve balance. The scheme drove countless fans to sign-up for the subforum in the hopes of partaking in the event, including Marvel filmmakers, the Russo Brothers, who joined up days before the ban ensued. And now that's it's all done, Joe and Anthony find themselves on opposite sides of the fallout.

Apparently Joe Russo was the only brother to survive the mass ban. As posted by Joe himself on Reddit, the filmmaker bid his brother goodbye, as he's one of the unfortunate members who were kicked out of that particular subreddit. Fans quickly flocked to the older Russo's post, most of them joking that Avengers 4's real plot will be about Joe finding Anthony. Others, meanwhile, humorously said that it's a good thing that Avengers 3 and 4 were filmed back-to-back, considering that one of the two directors is now dust.

Anthony, on the other hand, acknowledged what happened by posting a separate Reddit message that says "Where am I?" in a new subreddit dubbed r/inthesoulstone - which is where all of the banned users have been shipped to. One wonders if that could be a nod to what may have happened to all those who were suddenly disintegrated in Infinity War, despite Marvel Studios' stubborn insistence that they are in fact dead.

While this whole sequence of events does indeed seem to have been organic among the Marvel fan community, it basically ended up as a unintentional publicity stunt for both the still in theaters Infinity War and next year's follow-up. Not only did the Russos get involved, the directors even got Thanos actor Josh Brolin in on the fun with a video message. Fun activities like this are necessary right now, considering that the MCU is entering a long 8-month hiatus with the release of Ant-Man & The Wasp last week - their third and final film of 2018. Next on the Marvel Studios docket is Brie Larson's Captain Marvel, which won't be in theaters until March 2019. Back in the mundane real world, both Russos are currently busy, as they head back to set for Avengers 4 reshoots that are planned to last the entire summer.
