Time to get schwifty! The Adult Swim series Rick and Morty has just landed its first Emmy.
The animated series, which hails from Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, picked up the Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program for the episode “Pickle Rick.” It’s one of two big wins for Adult Swim, as the network also scored an Emmy for Outstanding Short-Form Animated Program for Robot Chicken.

This marks the first Emmy win for the fan-favorite series, and one that the duo behind the show definitely didn’t expect to win. “We didn’t think we were going to win, so thank you to the Academy,” Roiland said as they accepted the award. He also went on to thank everyone involved in the project for “believing in this weird concept.”

Rick and Morty has become a huge hit for Adult Swim since it premiered five years ago, despite having only aired three seasons to date. Though the show’s creators faced a bit of uncertainty following Season 3, as they feared rushing a fourth season just for the sake of doing so, Adult Swim has ordered a massive 70 more episodes of the series.
While Harmon has opted to quit Twitter after an offensive skit he starred in a decade ago resurfaced, Roiland quickly took to the social media platform to express his excitement over their win.

Rick and Morty, created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, first premiered on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim programming block back in 2013 and has gone on to air three seasons since; of course, as fans will note, the third season had a long documented journey to the small screen. While a premiere date has yet to be unveiled, production is officially underway on Season 4.
