Stranger Things Season 3 Still Casting Due to ‘Challenging’ Storyline

While Stranger Things Season 3 has already been in progress since May, it has now been revealed that the popular Netflix series has faced a major challenge in terms of rounding out the rest of the cast.

The news was divulged by Casting Director Carmen Cuba at the 10th Annual Australians in Film Heath Ledger Scholarship dinner last Thursday as she answered some questions on the sci-fi phenomenon.

“There’s a certain storyline that’s challenging that we have to keep going back to the well for,” said Cuba in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. Casting has been one of the series’ strongest points, as it brought the world the likes of Millie Bobby Brown as the super-powered Eleven and the rest of the cast, especially Finn Wolfhard, all of whom have garnered consistent praise for their performances.

However, with the plot for the third season so secretive, Cuba admitted it has become all the more difficult to land the right faces. “There’s a lot of secrecy, and we can’t say what parts we’re looking for, so it’s still a weird challenge,” she said. “I know that if we said, ‘We’re looking for this and it’s for Stranger Things,’ we would have tons more options, but it’s still a lot of work.”

Last season focused on Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) recovering from his trip to the Upside Down, finally free of the dark realm’s possession. However, directors the Duffer brothers and producer Shawn Levy have warned that this season is still as dangerous as ever for the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, with new monsters looming and hungry for revenge.

Stranger Things stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Natalie Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Priah Ferguson, Cary Elwes, Jake Busey and Maya Thurman-Hawke. The third season is slated to premiere in summer 2019.
