Supergirl Adds Superman Mythos’ Otis, Villain Mercy Graves for S4

Supergirl Adds Superman Mythos’ Otis, Villain Mercy Graves for S4

The CW’s Supergirl is set to welcome some new villainous players to National City. Following the release of the series’ Season 4 trailer at last week’s Comic-Con International in San Diego, we now have confirmation that DC villain Mercy Graves is coming on-board the series… and she won’t be coming alone: she’ll be bringing her brother Otis along with her.

Deadline has reported that The Last Ship actress Rohna Mitra has been cast in the recurring role of Mercy Graves, who has often been seen as Lex Luthor’s personal body guard and assistant in the comic books, and such animated fares as Young Justice. On Supergirl, Mercy will be “stepping out of the Luthor shadow and running her own show,” according to the character description. “With her biting wit and lethal brawn, Mercy steadily becomes a key figure in National City’s growing ‘human-first’ movement.”

The character previously appeared in the DC Extended Universe movie Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, where she was played by Tao Okamoto.

On top of that, the website has confirmed that Robert Baker (Grey’s Anatomy) is joining the cast of the series as Mercy’s brother and enforcer, Otis. The character will also be appearing in a recurring capacity, and it’s said that while he may not be the smartest person out there, he’s definitely one of the deadliest — especially when it comes to dealing with aliens.

The character of Otis first appeared in 1978’s Superman: The Movie as Lex Luthor’s dim-witted second-in-command. He would later appear in the Smallville: Season 11 comics, and make his main DCU continuity debut in the 2013 event series Forever Evil.

These additions only come as the latest in what appears to be a season full of new characters for Supergirl. After we had confirmation that Superman villain Manchester Black would debut on the series, we also later learned that Smallville alum Sam Witwer would recur as Agent Liberty. On top of that, the series is set to introduce television’s first trans superhero with the Legion of Superheroes’ Dreamer. All of this in a season that will also feature an alternate, Russian Supergirl, in a storyline that is meant to take inspiration from the Superman: Red Son comic book.

By all accounts, Kara Zor-El will have her hands more than full when the series returns with all new episodes this fall.
