According to Deadline, a television series based upon the young adult fantasy novel series Death is My BFF is in development at SYFY. The outlet previously reported last May that the novels had been acquired by Sony Pictures Television. Though the series is in very early development, it has already found its writer. with Lindsey Rosin set to pen the pilot. The novel series was written by Katarina Tonks for the website Wattpad and began in 2013. The official description reads:
“Death came knocking at her door.
Well actually, he pounded.
Faith Williams has always been a little odd, but never before did she think she was one of a kind. Enter Death, the legendary, sadistic, and irresistible Grim Reaper who sparred Faith’s life when she was a child. The more she tries to resist him, the more he’s popping up in her life and turning it entirely upside down. Death is dangerous with a dark past and a thirst for revenge, and Faith Williams is slowly becoming unable to resist his power over her.
Who is the man under the hood? What does he want with her?
Most importantly, why the hell does he have a name for his scythe?”
Wattpad, the site on which the series was first published, is a place for both amateur and professional writers alike to share their work with a wide audience. Death is My BFF became one of the most popular series on the site, even winning the site’s “Watty Award” in 2011. The first novel in Tonks’ series has nearly 20 million reads alone.
The upcoming series’ writer Lindsey Rosin is best known for writing the Cruel Intentions television movie follow-up in which Sarah Michelle Gellar reprises her role.
