When Season 4 of The Flash wrapped up in May, the identity of the Mystery Girl had just been revealed to the audience as Nora West-Allen, and judging by the latest promotional image from the series, it appears we’ll be seeing a whole lot more of her in Season 5.
Nora, known to comic readers as XS, is the future daughter of Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and Iris West (Candice Patton). According to showrunner Todd Helbing, the theme for the upcoming season is “legacy,” which means adding a descendant of The Flash to the regular cast is a timely and deliberate move.

“It’s [about] what’s really important to people, [in terms of] what they leave behind,” Helbing said. “Is it more important for Barry to be a good father, or The Flash?”
On top of exploring the ramifications of Nora’s sudden appearance in the universe, the show also plans to tease out other elements that remained open at the end of the last season, including what could have made Nora choose to travel through time, despite its perils. There will also be some exploration of why Nora seems to be getting closer to her father while appearing to be at odds with her mom. Actor Jessica Parker Kennedy has confirmed that these are questions that will be addressed “relatively early on in this season.”
The trailer for the show’s fifth season was shown at Comic-Con International in San Diego in July, giving fans a glimpse of some of the huge revelations to come, including what Nora’s big secret could be. Viewers were also given an introduction to the new villain Cicada (played by Chris Klein).
If that isn’t enough to get viewers hyped up, The CW network also recently confirmed a big Arrowverse crossover between The Flash, Arrow and Supergirl coming in December.

Helberg has said the show will pick up “right where it left off,” so viewers won’t be left waiting and wondering after seeing how things went down in season 4.
Returning Tuesday, October 9, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW, The Flash stars Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, Carlos Valdes, Danielle Panabaker, Tom Cavanaugh, Jesse L. Martin, Danielle Nicolet, Hartley Sawyer, and Jessica Parker Kennedy.
