The Gifted’s Matt Nix Says Trask Industries is Out for Season 2

Fans hoping to see more of the villainous Trask Industries in  Fox’s X-Men series The Gifted will be disappointed to hear that the show will apparently be heading in a different direction for the upcoming second season.

“We did Trask last year,” showrunner Matt Nix said in an interview with /Film. “This year we’re doing another sort of comic related organization so basically what we try to do is we break our stories. Then we figure out okay, what does this resonate with in the comics? So there’s a really interesting back and forth for us and the comics of like oh okay, now we need this. Then we’ll go to the comics and go, ‘If we pull this from the comics, what is it?’ Then that influences the story. It’s always a back and forth. This year it’s not Bolivar Trask but it’s another company.”

Bolivar Trask debuted in 1965 in Marvel Comics’ X-Men #14 as an anthropologist who became convinced that mutants would one day supplant humanity. In an effort to prevent this, he helped to develop the Sentinels — the enormous mutant-hunting robots that have battled the X-Men and their allies for decades, across comic books, film, animation and video games. Trask also appeared in 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, in which he was played by Peter Dinklage.

In Season 1 of The Gifted, we didn’t actually see Bolivar Trask. We did, however, learn that Trask Industries was responsible for the Hound Program, a top-secret initiative that turned mutants into the pawns of Sentinel Services.

Returning for Season 2 Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 8 p.m. ET/PT, Fox’s The Gifted stars Stephen Moyer as Reed Strucker, Amy Acker as Caitlin Strucker, Sean Teale as Eclipse/Marcos Diaz, Jamie Chung as Blink/Clarice Fong, Coby Bell as Jace Turner, Emma Dumont as Polaris/Lorna Dane, Blair Redford as Thunderbird/John Proudstar, Natalie Alyn Lind as Lauren Strucker, and Percy Hynes White as Andy Strucker.
