The trailer for the upcoming season 2 of The Orville has been released at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Yesterday afternoon, Fox officially gave fans a look at the first trailer for the continuation of the series.

The Orville is a science fiction comedy drama that first premiered on Fox in 2017. Created by Seth MacFarlane – who also stars as one of the main characters – the show takes place on an exploratory space vessel and follows the challenges that the crew face in both their professional and personal lives. The series is set 400 years in the future, and is a spoof of sci-fi shows like Star Trek. Alongside MacFarlane, who stars as Captain Ed Mercer, the cast also includes Adrianne Lee Palicki (Commander Kelly Grayson), Penny Johnson Jerald (Dr. Claire Finn), and Scott Grimes (Lt. Gordon Malloy). It was revealed that Fox has renewed the show for a second season in November 2017.

Fox has now gone on to release the first look at the official trailer for season 2 during the show’s panel at yesterday’s San Diego Comic-Con. Although The Orville is a parody show rooted in humor, it's also clear that the second season bring the occasional dose of sincere drama - not to mention plenty of epic outer-space action.

Season 2 of The Orville is currently in production, and there has been recent confirmation of a number of new names joining the cast and crew. Jessica Szohr – who is known for her work on shows such as Gossip Girl – has been added as a series regular, whilst Star Trek alum Joe Menosky will be acting as a co-producer. Jonathan Frakes, who directed and starred in Star Trek: The Next Generation, will also be contributing to the upcoming season.

The Orville has garnered quite the international fan-base following the debut of its first season, with Fox recently having reported that the series gained an audience of roughly 14 million viewers. Along with the high ratings, the love for the series has been demonstrated by the fact that it recently won the Saturn Award for Best Science Fiction Television Series. A lot of details regarding season 2 are currently still being kept under-wraps, but this latest trailer is sure to keep fans excited and eager for more.
