Following the success of 2018’s The Alienist, TNT announced on Friday they have ordered a sequel. The Alienist is based on a novel by Caleb Carr and its sequel, The Angel of Darkness, will now be turned into a miniseries.
Star Daniel Bruhl and castmates Luke Evans and Dakota Fanning will set out on an all-new storyline involving Bruhl’s character, Dr. Laszlo Kreizler. Kreizler is the “alienist” in question, investigating ritualistic murders in New York City’s teeming underbelly of the Gilded Age.

Kreizler was joined on his journey by newspaper illustrator John Moore, played by Evans, and aspiring detective Sara Howard, portrayed by Fanning. Together, they work to solve the mystery behind the killings of young boys.
The sequel to The Alienist will be produced by Paramount Television in concert with Turner’s Studio T.

Earning six Emmy nominations, Alienist is a huge critical and ratings success that reached more than 50 million people across multiple platforms to become 2018’s top new cable series, particularly within the coveted 18-49 demographic.
Angel of Darkness will be co-produced by Eric Roth and Anonymous Content’s Steve Golin. Serving as executive producers are Rosalie Swedlin and Cary Joji Fukunaga.
