Too Old to Die Young follows a grieving police officer (Teller) who, along with the man who shot his partner, finds himself in an underworld filled with working-class hit men, Yakuza soldiers, cartel assassins sent from Mexico, Russian mafia captains and gangs of teen killers.

“I’m a huge fan of Nic’s work, so the opportunity to work with him, and for a company like Amazon, with this type of material is very exciting,” Teller told Deadline in a prior interview. In addition to the Academy Award-winning film Whiplash, Teller is known for his acting work in films like 2013’s The Spectacular Now, the Divergent series, 2015’s Fantastic Four and 2016’s War Dogs with Jonah Hill and Bradley Cooper. Teller has a couple films coming up, including Granite Mountain, which will hit theaters on September 22, and the PTSD film Thank You for Your Service, based on the 2013 based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book of the same name by David Finkel.

The series is co-written by comic book writer Ed Brubaker (Lowlife) and Refn, with the 48-year-old director helming all ten episodes of the crime drama, each of which run 90 minutes.

Too Old to Die Young is set to premiere on Amazon Prime on June 14.
