After decades of reinvention and redesign, the Transformers are going back to the classic look for the animated series Transformers: Cyberverse.
The upcoming Cartoon Network animated series features designs directly inspired by the shape-shifting robots’ initial animated series from 1984. In advance of the series premiere next week, the network has released a trailer showing the latest iteration of the endless conflict between the Autobots and Decepticons.
“When we were designing the look and feel of Transformers: Cyberverse, we were inspired by the classic clean appearance of the original G1-style,” Tom Warner, Hasbro’s senior vice president for the Transformers franchise, told Entertainment Weekly. “This was the design we initially fell in love with in the ‘80s and it felt like the perfect fit for this new origin story.”

Similar to the upcoming live-action Transformers spinoff film, the new animated series will follow Bumblebee as he finds himself on Earth with his memory banks damaged. As the heroic Autobot attempts to regain his memories and discover why he’s on another planet, he begins to recall his final moments back on his homeworld of Cybertron while facing Decepticons such as Megatron and Starscream.
