It appears that the U.S. adaptation of Vampire Hunter D is finally getting off the ground, thanks to an update from the series’ screenwriter Brandon Easton.
Easton, who has worked on cartoons such as Transformers: Rescue Bots and Warner Bros.’ 2011 ThunderCats reboot tweeted out the title page of the pilot’s script, with the caption, “Ensuring my bosses and the creators are all happy so that the fans can enjoy something special! #vampirehunterd #vampire #horror #anime #sciencefiction #manga.”

It’s not much to go on, but for those who have been following the project when it was first announced back in 2015, it appears it’s now going to be called Vampire Hunter D: The Series instead of Vampire Hunter D: Resurrection, as previously planned. The image also confirms Easton’s script will be based on the Vampire Hunter D novels from writer Hideyuki Kikuchi.
Kikuchi’s work has influenced several manga stories, anime series, animated movies and most recently, crowdfunded comics based on the property. Vampire Hunter D was created in 1983 with Kikuchi penning the initial novels, and illustrations done by Yoshitaka Amano. It’s an action-horror in the vein of Castlevania and Blade, which follows D, a half-breed vampire who cleanses the world of evil vampires looking to harm mankind.
