News had broke in May following the conclusion of the series’ eighth season that Lincoln would be phased out over the course of the first half of the show’s ninth season. Lincoln confirmed his departure at Comic-Con International in San Diego in July revealing that his exit was so he could spend more time with his family as his children grew older.
